AQSolotl, the first company in Malaysia dedicated to quantum computing hardware, has officially established its research and development (R&D) base at the UTM Technovation Park in Johor Bahru. This strategic move positions the startup to focus on the engineering of high-precision control electronics, which are fundamental components required to manage and stabilize quantum computing systems.
By situating its operations within the UTM Technovation Park, AQSolotl intends to leverage the university's established research infrastructure. The partnership is designed to foster a cross-border commercialization corridor between Malaysia and Singapore, facilitating a flow of talent and technological advancement between the two neighboring nations.
At the helm of this initiative is Dr. Yap Yung Szen, the company's Chief Technology Officer. Dr. Yap is a recognized researcher at UTM and has gained international visibility through his inclusion in UNESCO’s global Quantum 100 initiative. His leadership underscores the academic-industrial synergy being cultivated in the region.
This development marks a significant milestone for the Southeast Asian quantum landscape. By focusing on hardware—specifically the control electronics that interface with quantum processors—AQSolotl is addressing a critical bottleneck in the scalability of quantum systems. The establishment of this R&D base signals a growing commitment to building a robust, localized quantum hardware ecosystem in the region.
