The European Commission has officially validated the outcomes of the eCAUSIS project, signaling a pivotal transition for Creotech Quantum’s Discrete Variable Quantum Key Distribution (DV-QKD) platform. This approval marks the conclusion of a rigorous research and development phase, authorizing the move from laboratory experimentation to large-scale commercial manufacturing.
Supported by a budget of nearly €7 million under the Horizon Europe framework, the eCAUSIS initiative was a collaborative effort led by Creotech Quantum. The project integrated the technical expertise of the Austrian Institute of Technology (AIT) and the Fraunhofer Society to refine the reliability and scalability of quantum communication hardware.
At the heart of this development is the establishment of a sovereign European supply chain for QKD modules. By moving into the production phase, the project aims to provide the infrastructure necessary for secure quantum communications, addressing the growing demand for cryptographic security in an era of increasing cyber threats.
Initial production targets are set at 1,000 units per year, providing a foundational footprint for the technology's adoption. However, the roadmap includes significant scalability, with the potential to increase manufacturing capacity to 10,000 units annually. This expansion is critical for the widespread deployment of quantum-secure networks across industrial and governmental sectors.
