Press release – FormationQ and the Hartree Centre, part of the Science and Technology Facilities Council ( STFC ) and UK Research and Innovation (UKRI), today announced a strategic partnership to accelerate the adoption of advanced quantum computing technologies across industry, government and research.
This collaboration will explore how quantum computing, artificial intelligence (AI), high-performance computing (HPC) and hybrid computing can be applied to solve complex real-world challenges across sectors including healthcare, life sciences, manufacturing, logistics, energy, infrastructure and the public sector. By combining FormationQ ‘s expertise in advanced computing enablement with the Hartree Centre’s leadership in digital innovation, the partnership aims to help position organisations to shift quantum technology research and proof-of-concept projects into scalable operational deployments.
While advances in quantum computing and AI continue at pace, many organisations face significant barriers to practical adoption. Integrating advanced computing into existing systems requires not only access to emerging technologies, but also the expertise, infrastructure and collaborative frameworks needed to evaluate, validate and deploy solutions responsibly at scale. As the OECD reported in its 2026 policy paper on Building business readiness for quantum computing, the supply of quantum-ready talent is key barrier to quantum computing adoption, with over 40% of respondents citing the lack of a skilled workforce as an organisational challenge in adopting quantum.
Through this partnership, FormationQ and the Hartree Centre will explore new approaches to supporting organisations throughout this journey – from identifying high-value applications and developing pilot projects, to building the technical capabilities and deployment pathways required for long-term adoption. The collaboration will also support skills development by engaging universities, researchers, students and industry partners to strengthen the UK’s advanced computing ecosystem.
Kate Royse, Director of the Hartree Centre, said:
“The Hartree Centre works with businesses, researchers and public sector organisations to accelerate the adoption of advanced digital technologies, and quantum is a critical part of that mission.
“By partnering with FormationQ , we look forward to combining our track record of turning research into real-world impact with their expertise in quantum enablement, helping organisations unlock the potential of quantum computing, AI and hybrid computing to solve complex problems and strengthen UK innovation.”
Nada Hosking, Founder and CEO of FormationQ , added:
“The future of advanced computing will depend not only on technological breakthroughs, but on the ability of organisations to tangibly harness these technologies to support the achievement of their business objectives. The Hartree Centre has an exceptional track record of converting research into real-world use cases for their partners. Together, we have an unique opportunity to accelerate the practical adoption of quantum, AI and hybrid computing in the UK; advancing capabilities in the sectors that matter.”
Beyond application development, the partnership will explore opportunities for international collaboration with governments, research organisations and industry partners, helping to build the institutional frameworks, technical capabilities and collaborative networks needed to support the responsible adoption of advanced computing technologies worldwide as well as in the UK.
Building on its existing partnership portfolio which includes the University of Cambridge, The King’s Foundation and The Jane Goodall Institute, FormationQ continues to build expertise in advanced computing, industrial innovation and ecosystem development, with the aim to create new pathways for organisations to harness quantum computing, AI and high-performance computing to address some of society’s most complex challenges.
