Infleqtion has announced a significant milestone in the pursuit of fault-tolerant quantum computing, successfully demonstrating 30 entangled logical qubits on its proprietary Sqale neutral-atom platform. This achievement marks a pivotal transition from raw physical qubit counts to the reliable logical qubits necessary for complex, error-corrected computations.
The breakthrough was achieved by utilizing 80 physical neutral-atom qubits. To manage the inherent noise and decoherence of the hardware, the team employed a sophisticated dual-layer approach: AI-assisted logical circuit discovery combined with software-based loss correction. By using artificial intelligence to optimize the pathways of logical operations, Infleqtion has significantly mitigated the overhead typically associated with error correction.
This development is particularly significant for the scalability of neutral-atom systems. By demonstrating that logical qubits can be effectively managed at this scale, Infleqtion is establishing a roadmap for high-density quantum processing. The company aims to expand this capacity to 100 logical qubits by 2028, with a long-term objective of reaching 1,000 logical qubits by 2030.
While the technology is still evolving, Infleqtion is already applying this increased logical capacity to practical use cases. Current applications focus on biomarker discovery, where the high-dimensional data of biological systems can be processed more efficiently by entangled logical qubits. This move toward practical utility highlights the accelerating pace of commercial quantum hardware development.
