Lean-QuantumAlg: A Framework for AI Agents to Produce Quantum Algorithms that Humans Can Trust

arXiv:2610.30216v1 Announce Type: new Abstract: AI agents are increasingly capable of constructing quantum algorithms and proofs, yet machine-checked proofs alone cannot guarantee that the intended problem is solved or that resource claims match the verified computation. Here we introduce Lean-QuantumAlg, a Lean 4 framework for trustworthy AI-assisted development of quantum algorithms. Its Algorithm-Solves-Problem contract binds correctness, success probability, borrowed-state restoration and q...

arXiv:2610.30216v1 Announce Type: new Abstract: AI agents are increasingly capable of constructing quantum algorithms and proofs, yet machine-checked proofs alone cannot guarantee that the intended problem is solved or that resource claims match the verified computation. Here we introduce Lean-QuantumAlg, a Lean 4 framework for trustworthy AI-assisted development of quantum algorithms. Its Algorithm-Solves-Problem contract binds correctness, success probability, borrowed-state restoration and quantum and classical resource bounds to a single execution, while separating the guarantees that Lean checks from the problem specifications and execution models that humans review. We demonstrate the framework on nine AI-formalized quantum algorithms, from Grover search to quantum attacks on RSA-2048 and P-256, with less than 1% of each algorithm's imported source code requiring statement-level human review once the shared framework has been audited. By integrating reusable mathematical foundations, certified algorithmic primitives and execution-grounded verification, Lean-QuantumAlg provides a basis for AI agents to construct and certify quantum algorithms, opening a path toward scalable AI-driven discovery of quantum algorithms.

Local Clifford equivalence to CSS codes: Polynomial-time classification and conversion

Calderbank--Shor--Steane (CSS) codes support decoding and fault-tolerant logical operations through separate pure $X$ and pure $Z$ stabilizer checks. Generator choices and single-qubit Clifford transformations can obscure this structure. We give a deterministic polynomial-time algorithm that decides whether an arbitrary stabilizer code is locally Clifford-equivalent to a CSS code and constructs the required transformation and CSS checks whenever...

Polynomial-Time Classical Simulation of BosonSampling under Any Constant-Fraction Photon Loss

Understanding how photon loss changes the classical complexity of BosonSampling is central to assessing the robustness of near-term photonic quantum advantage. In this work, we present a polynomial-time classical simulation algorithm for lossy BosonSampling that applies whenever a constant fraction of the input photons survives. We consider the standard fixed-loss model, where $N$ input photons propagate through an $M$-mode interferometer and ex...

Quantum error correction well below the color code threshold

Quantum error correction enables scalable fault-tolerant quantum computation by suppressing logical errors exponentially with code distance once physical error rates fall below a critical threshold. Here we demonstrate below-threshold operation of triangular color codes with distances $d=3,5,$ and $7$ on Quantinuum's Helios trapped-ion quantum processor. Leveraging both circuit- and hardware- level leakage reduction schemes, we achieve logical e...

Quantum Readout Complexity for Normalized Linear Functionals

Quantum numerical algorithms often encode a positive solution $q$ in the amplitudes of a quantum state, while the required scientific output is a normalized linear functional of $q$. Basis measurements produce probabilities determined by squared solution values, while the functional uses the solution values themselves. We study the complexity of this output-interface problem for $F_\phi(q)=\int\phi q\,\mathrm d\nu/\int q\,\mathrm d\nu$ and ident...
