Press release – ORIENTOM Co., Ltd. and softwareQ Inc. have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to explore joint research, development and innovation opportunities in quantum and quantum-inspired computing for the financial services, banking, and insurance sectors.
Objectives of the Collaboration
The collaboration aims to establish a framework for the joint exploration, research and development, innovation, product development and commercialization of quantum and quantum-inspired computing applications in the field of quantum finance.
The activities will focus on four main areas:
- derivatives pricing, including Monte Carlo and quantum amplitude estimation approaches;
- portfolio optimization and risk management, including combinatorial and constrained optimization, and risk analytics;
- machine learning applications for the banking and insurance sectors, including quantum and quantum-inspired machine learning;
- the compilation, optimization, simulation, benchmarking and resource estimation of the quantum circuits and algorithms underlying the above use cases.
ORIENTOM and softwareQ intend to combine their respective competences, resources and know-how in order to assess technical feasibility, develop proofs of concept and prototypes, and evaluate opportunities for further joint activities.
Reasons for the Collaboration
This collaboration brings together two organizations with highly complementary strengths and a shared ambition to unlock the potential of quantum software tools, quantum algorithms, and quantum machine learning for real-world financial applications, driving innovation and creating new value opportunities. ORIENTOM contributes its expertise in and knowledge of the financial, banking and insurance sectors, the relevant business use cases and domain requirements, and its quantum and quantum-inspired algorithm development capabilities. It is currently developing and testing its own quantum finance algorithms for derivatives and options pricing, portfolio optimization and risk analytics.
These sit on a technology stack ORIENTOM has been building over several years: a quantum programming and execution layer of its own design; Atom-Q, a hardware-abstraction layer that dispatches the same workload across a range of quantum and photonic backends; and application workbenches for derivatives pricing and hedging, portfolio construction and risk, insurance analytics and energy markets.
softwareQ contributes its expertise in quantum software engineering, quantum compilation and circuit optimization, quantum algorithm implementation, simulation and resource estimation, evidenced by its proven, state-of-the-art software stack, including the staq quantum compiler, the Quantum++ simulation library, and the aqcess platform for compiling, optimizing and running quantum algorithms across multiple hardware backends and simulators.
Based on groundbreaking R&D, softwareQ ’s tools are in commercial use, benchmarked against and integrated into code bases worldwide by companies and organizations including NVIDIA and Oak Ridge National Laboratory. In April 2026, Quantum++, softwareQ’s high-performance quantum computing framework has been independently and formally verified as one of the few top platforms globally.
Comments
“We are excited to combine our quantum finance algorithms with softwareQ ’s globally recognized compilation and simulation expertise. This collaboration lets us benchmark our derivatives-pricing and risk-management algorithms against some of the most advanced quantum software tooling available today, and move more quickly from research to real-world deployment for our banking and insurance partners,” said Seung-hyun (Alfred) Bang, Chief Executive Officer of ORIENTOM .
“ ORIENTOM brings deep, practical experience in quantum finance and a clear understanding of what banks and insurers actually need. Working together lets us apply staq, Quantum++ and aqcess to real derivatives-pricing and risk-management workloads, and helps us keep building quantum software that performs reliably outside the lab and makes real-world impact already today,” said Dr Vlad Gheorghiu, Chief Executive Officer and President of softwareQ .
