• The funding will support silicon quantum computing development, custom silicon co-development, semiconductor manufacturing partnerships and the company’s international expansion, including its new U.S. lab in Maryland.

• Quantum Motion is targeting fault-tolerant quantum hardware based on silicon CMOS manufacturing, with the company also participating in Stage B of DARPA’s Quantum Benchmarking Initiative.

PRESS RELEASE — Quantum Motion , the leader in silicon spin-based quantum computing, today announced the second close of its  series C funding round  to accelerate the scale-up of its fault-tolerant quantum hardware.

This second close of the series C round led by DCVC and Kembara contributes investments from Imec.ventures, Lansdowne Partners, Sony Innovation Fund, S3 Ventures, and Inkef. The funding will drive custom silicon co-development, leverage global semiconductor manufacturing pipelines and build upon key milestones including international expansion, notably opening US lab in Maryland, and participation in stage B of DARPA’s Quantum Benchmarking Initiative (QBI).

Quantum Motion is deliberately focused on industrial scalability. While many alternative quantum computing architectures carry a price tag upwards of $100 million per machine, because of the need for bespoke specialised hardware, Quantum Motion ’s silicon transistor-based approach using the standard silicon CMOS fabrication technology used in everyday chip manufacturing enables a 100-fold reduction in cost to single digit millions. Its systems are designed to be deployed into standard data-centre environments and racks, with a 100-fold reduction in space and 1000-fold reduction in energy consumption compared to alternatives.

“Silicon technology transformed classical computing and it remains the only platform capable of delivering the density and scale required for practical quantum utility,” said  James Palles-Dimmock, CEO of Quantum Motion . “This commitment from major strategic and financial investors validates our engineering-first strategy and will accelerate our progress towards a utility scale quantum computer. By tapping into existing global semiconductor supply chains, we are bypassing the cost bottlenecks of bespoke manufacturing and bringing commercially viable quantum systems to market faster.”

Imec.ventures

“Our investment goes beyond capital; it is a commitment to co-developing disruptive silicon innovation that moves the entire industry forward. Quantum Motion ’s track record of translating silicon research into market-ready solutions speaks for itself. We are investing in Quantum Motion because of its demonstrated ability to execute and scale where others face bottlenecks. By providing deep technical support and ecosystem access, we will help it build on this momentum,” said  Olivier Rousseaux, Head of imec.ventures .

Lansdowne Partners

“ Quantum Motion is operating in an incredibly exciting area of technology and has made strong progress to date. We are very excited by the team’s approach in silicon, and the milestones achieved across performance and manufacturing. We are pleased to back this company through the next stages of development,” said  Peter Davies, Senior Partner and Head of Developed Markets at Lansdowne Partners .

Sony Innovation Fund

“Sony Innovation Fund invests in entrepreneurs developing technologies with the potential to create meaningful impact across industries. Quantum Motion stands out for its pragmatic, engineering-led approach leveraging established semiconductor manufacturing to accelerate the path to commercially viable quantum computing. The team has consistently executed against an ambitious roadmap, demonstrated through the deployment of their full-stack silicon CMOS system at the UK’s National Quantum Computing Centre. We are excited to deepen our investment and leverage our global network as Quantum Motion continues to scale its business and technology,” said  Antonio Avitabile, Managing Director EU at Sony Innovation Fund .

S3 Ventures

“While alternative architectures rely on bespoke hardware costing upwards of $100 million per machine, Quantum Motion leverages existing semiconductor infrastructure to drive costs down to single-digit millions at volume. As Andy Kessler famously noted, ‘CMOS always wins.’ Quantum Motion ’s progress proves that silicon spin is the most scalable, cost-effective path to practical quantum utility,” said  Aaron Perman, General Partner at S3 Ventures.

Inkef

“Realising useful quantum computing isn’t just a physics problem, it’s a manufacturing problem. Quantum Motion is the only company tackling scale from within a semiconductor supply chain that already operates globally. We’ve backed their contrarian vision since 2020, and their recent milestones prove that the future of quantum is being built on standard silicon,” said  Frank Lansink, General Partner at Inkef .
