Instead of seeking an ideal circuit depth for quantum algorithms, a new approach maps precisely how much error each layer can withstand before failing to deliver useful results. Simulations reveal that tolerance for noise generally decreases as algorithm complexity, up to ten layers, increases; deeper circuits demand stricter noise requirements. This shifts focus from optimising performance to understanding the limits of reliable computation on near-term devices like IBM’s ibm_marrakesh processor.
