Caltech and the New California Quantum Ecosystem

The breakthroughs accelerating the growth of California's quantum innovation ecosystem depend on fundamental science and engineering from Caltech and other academic institutions, according to Caltech leaders and researchers who spoke at the statewide Quantum California Convening earlier this month. Quantum California is a partnership between the California Governor's Office of Business and Economic Development (GO-Biz) and the University of California Office of the President (UCOP). The init...

Tuning excitation can change photon number coherence in quantum dots

Photon number coherence (PNC) has become an important figure of merit to fulfill the security requirements of quantum cryptography, and quantum dots (QDs) embedded in photonic microcavities offer a tunable source of single photons. The “Swing-UP of quantum EmitteR population” (SUPER) scheme can significantly decrease the PNC of the emitted photon, compared to resonant excitation.
