Toward a Quantum Information Foundation for Neutron Scattering

arXiv:2611.05466v1 Announce Type: new Abstract: Neutron scattering is a central probe of quantum materials, yet what quantum information can, in principle, be extracted from a scattering experiment remains unclear. Here we formulate neutron scattering as a quantum measurement, with the scattering amplitudes acting as Kraus operators on the material state. This provides a unified description of conventional intensity, coherent scattering, interferometric measurements, and entanglement witnesse...

arXiv:2611.05466v1 Announce Type: new Abstract: Neutron scattering is a central probe of quantum materials, yet what quantum information can, in principle, be extracted from a scattering experiment remains unclear. Here we formulate neutron scattering as a quantum measurement, with the scattering amplitudes acting as Kraus operators on the material state. This provides a unified description of conventional intensity, coherent scattering, interferometric measurements, and entanglement witnesses, including those based on quantum Fisher information. We then ask how far this connection can be extended to nonlinear properties of a quantum state. For two independently prepared samples, we derive the general structure of probe-mediated measurement probabilities and show that, for spin-projection-conserving dynamics, low-order scattering cannot resolve certain many-body coherences required to determine purity. Conversely, an idealized single-spin protocol shows how probe-mediated exchange can access purity when the appropriate two-copy operation is realized. Our results establish a quantum-information description of neutron scattering and delineate the information accessible through conventional and interferometric measurements.

Spectral measures and sharpness of quantum speed limits

Quantum speed limits bound the time required for a given state to evolve into a given subspace of the Hilbert space under specific energy constraints. We prove that for several standard orthogonalization time bounds, the unique spectral measure associated with the initial vector that saturates the bound is a sum of two Dirac measures. Furthermore, we constrain the families of spectral measures that come arbitrarily close to these bounds and cons...

Direct tests of conformal symmetry with Rydberg atoms: assessment and proposals

We propose a direct test of conformal symmetry using Rydberg-atom arrays. By arranging the atoms on a circle and measuring equal-time two-point correlation functions, the characteristic functional form predicted by conformal field theory can be tested directly. We estimate the number of experimental snapshots required to resolve this behavior with sufficient statistical precision. We further optimize the time-dependent ramp profile of the Rabi f...

Quantum Complexity and Stabilizer-State Expansions: From Pairing to Deformation in Fermionic Systems

Understanding how collective phenomena such as pairing and deformation emerge in interacting fermionic systems, and how the correlations underlying them shape the resources required for their simulation, is a central challenge in many-body physics. We investigate various aspects of quantum complexity in a fermionic system exhibiting two main forms of collectivity, specifically deformation and pairing, through entanglement, non-stabilizerness, an...

Interacting quantum reference frames

We formulate quantum reference frames within the Dirac quantization of gauge theories, where physical states are obtained from a kinematical Hilbert space $\mathcal{H}_{\rm kin}$ by group averaging. We assume the gauge group $G$ is unimodular, and we define a quantum reference frame as a system of coherent states associated with a group $G_R$ of frame orientations acting on a tensor factor of $\mathcal{H}_{\rm kin}$. In direct analogy with the F...
