IQM Quantum Computers has officially entered the South American market, securing a strategic agreement to provide an on-premises IQM Spark system to the Eldorado Research Institute in Brazil. Scheduled for deployment in the first quarter of 2027, this transaction represents a milestone for the region as it constitutes the first instance of a private research entity in Brazil acquiring a dedicated quantum processing unit (QPU).
The deployment is designed to provide Eldorado with a dual-layered infrastructure. In addition to the physical on-premises hardware, the institute will gain cloud access to IQM’s European 54-qubit QPU. This hybrid approach is intended to facilitate a robust ecosystem of collaboration between the institute, academic universities, emerging startups, and industrial partners.
By integrating these resources, Eldorado aims to accelerate the development of sophisticated quantum algorithms and explore the frontiers of hybrid workflows. These workflows will specifically target the intersection of High-Performance Computing (HPC), Artificial Intelligence (AI), and quantum computing, seeking to unlock new capabilities in complex problem-solving.
For IQM, this expansion is a key component of its global commercial strategy. The sale contributes to the company's growing order backlog and underscores the increasing international demand for accessible, high-performance quantum hardware. The move signals a maturing market where research institutions are moving beyond cloud-only access to own physical infrastructure.
