Can you truly estimate what’s already there when dealing with quantum phenomena? This work demonstrates that assuming an inherent “true value” for any quantity measured in quantum metrology clashes with established principles, complete quantum states and entangled measurements. Lifting the assumption that estimated quantities must be fixed parameters instead allows them to exist as fluctuating quantum variables, revealing fundamental limits on realistic interpretations of measurement itself.
